Our company started in 2013 with a bold vision and determination. Throughout the years, we have experienced steady growth, expanding worldwide and achieving significant milestones.
2013
José Nestola and Juan Uscola launch Copernicus as a special servicer for Secured NPL portfolios.
2014
Copernicus starts managing Project Amazona for one of its investors. Project Amazona was an NPL portfolio with a par value of €772 million backed with property and hotels.
2016
Copernicus reaches a total of 14 NPL portfolios under management.
2017
Copernicus starts managing REO portfolios.
2018
Copernicus starts its internationalization, starting operations in Italy.
2019
Copernicus’ inclusion in the Financial Intermediaries Registry of the Bank of Spain, as stipulated in Law 5/2019 and starts operations in Portugal.
2020
Copernicus opens offices in Greece and Peru, continuing with its commitment with expanding internationally.
2021
Copernicus starts operations in France and launches Copernicus Credit, an alternative Real Estate financing platform.
2022
Copernicus launches its Hospitality division and Copernicus Capital, an independent investment platform focused on off-market NPL opportunities. Copernicus Servicing reaches the €6bn milestone in assets under management.
2023
Copernicus Group is a diversified group with a presence in five countries, different products and services, and +250 employees at its 10-year anniversary celebration.

His professional background combines senior leadership roles in global investment banking and capital markets, with deep expertise in financial strategy and corporate governance.
He served as Member of the Board of Citigroup Iberia, Co-Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets at Citigroup Spain, and Managing Director at Citigroup Spain.
Previously, he was Co-Founder and Managing Director for Spain and Portugal at Salomon Smith Barney, and President & CEO of Nikko Securities SVSA.

Juan joined Copernicus Group in 2013 as Founding Partner and is Managing Director of Copernicus Spain & Perú.
He has held several leadership roles within the company, including Head of Legal, Head of Servicing, and Head of Ibera and Perú.
Juan holds a Law degree and a Master’s degree in Corporate Legal Advice from Universidad Complutense.
With over 20 years of experience in distressed debt and asset management, he previously served as Head of Legal Departments across three regional offices at Banco Popular.
Later, he led the bank’s national Legal Department specializing in foreclosures and bankruptcies, managing over 20,000 delinquent mortgages and 10,000 corporate insolvency cases.
Juan personally handled Banco Popular’s 35 largest corporate bankruptcies.

Paul is a Founding Partner and joined Copernicus Group in 2014.
Since then, he has advised on over 200 NPL portfolio transactions across Spain, Portugal, France and Italy, bringing deep expertise in corporate finance, distressed assets, and cross-border advisory.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies with First Class Honours and is a qualified Irish Chartered Accountant, with over 25 years of professional experience.
Before joining Copernicus, Paul was Director of Restructuring at KPMG Spain, advising lenders, debtors, and alternative investors. Earlier in his career, he advised private equity and corporate clients on M&A transactions, including some of the largest leveraged buyouts (LBOs) in Spain between 2004 and 2009.
He began his professional career at KPMG Dublin, auditing companies primarily in the technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) sector from 1997 to 2001.
